“Little Women” by Louisa May Alcott (post 6): What is the character Jo, as she is described in Chapter I — tomboy, transgender, or multiple personality?

The terms “tomboy” and “transgender” encompass wide ranges of people. “Tomboy” is often taken to imply a phase that a girl outgrows, while “transgender” implies lifelong feelings, but some people would say that tomboys continue to have those feelings, but decide to hide them, while transgender people decide not to hide them. Perhaps tomboys and transgender people are on a continuum. I don’t know.

Another thing I don’t know is how many tomboys and transgender people are persons with undiagnosed multiple personality. I would guess that most of them do not have multiple personality, but that some do, and here is one example:
