Mutism and Multiple Personality: Fiction writer, whose works deal with childhood trauma, had stopped talking at age 12, feeling misunderstood

The book review in which the above is reported says the author had been evaluated and found completely normal, and that her only problem had been “complete disinterest” in the world around her, which the reviewer interpreted as the “aristocratic disdain” of a “precocious 12-year-old” (1).

However, since this blog is interested in any possible relationship between fiction writers and multiple personality, I googled mutism and multiple personality (also called dissociative identity disorder), finding one case reported (2), which may or may not have relevance to this particular writer.
